Axe TI2E Industrial, energy and environmental transition

The TI2E axis is a cross-disciplinary scientific axis designed to respond to the regional strategic priorities for research and innovation (SRESRI 2020-2030) identified by the Regional Council. In particular, the axis is positioned on the strategic priorities: industrial transition and environmental transition.

In this way, the axis’ actions demonstrate a determination to support companies in their transitions, notably by maturing the most applicative work, and to contribute to the influence of the Grand Est region. This involvement encourages the transfer and sharing of skills and know-how between the three research teams, in order to address a global issue that often requires multi-disciplinary skills.
As part of the industrial transition, work will be undertaken on SHM/PM, Structure Health Monitoring and Process Monitoring (axis 1 and 3 TE, axis 1 and 3 MAGC, axis 2 and 3 MAPI,). Efforts will focus on

the optimization of processes and procedures related to additive manufacturing,
on systems monitoring through maintenance 4.0,
and the diagnosis of renewable energy systems.

These aspects will call on artificial intelligence tools such as digital twins and learning methods to exploit data banks with relevance and develop intelligent monitoring of installations and processes. These elements will provide a better understanding of conditions, and help operators to make better decisions. These activities were initiated through the MATUR Chair and the development of national and international networks with academic partners.

The energy and environmental transition will be addressed through the development of renewable energy sources and bio-based materials (Axes 1 and 3 TE, Axes 2 and 3 MAGC, Axes 1 and 2 MAPI). In this way, cross-disciplinarity lies in the exchange of skills in the field of materials and their multi-scale and multi-physics characterization for the development of new composite materials as well as new functionalized eco-products with high energy and/or mechanical performance. Research activities in the fields of energy and environmental transitions are fully in line with the axes of the Condorcet Federative Research Structure (CNRS, Université de Reims Champagne Ardenne and Université de Picardie Jules Verne d’Amiens - SFR Condorcet FR 3417), which aims to federate research in bioeconomy in the Grand-Est and Haute de France regions, as well as in Belgium.
This cross-disciplinary axis will enhance the exchange of resources between the UFR Sciences Exactes et Naturelles in Reims, the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Ingénieurs de Reims (ESIReims), the Ecole d’Ingénieurs en Sciences Industrielles et Numérique (EiSINe) in Charleville-Mézières and the IUT in Troyes.

The structuring of this axis will further enhance the value of nationally and internationally recognized platforms (Platinium 3D, MULTIMAT platform) and increase the visibility of strategic collaborations with industry and academia.
